Ross University School of Medicine, located on the beautiful Caribbean Island of Barbados invites applications for Standardized Patient Trainer in the Introduction to Clinical Medicine Department.

Our mission is to prepare highly dedicated students to become effective, successful physicians in the United States. Basic science coursework is taught in Barbados and students then complete their clinical studies in the United States. After passing all prerequisite examinations, Ross graduates are licensed to practice medicine in all 50 states of the U.S. Ross University School of Medicine is a division of Adtalem Global Education.  

Education is the primary focus of the faculty.  The academic year is divided into three semesters with a new class of students admitted each semester.  Lectures and other educational responsibilities continue throughout the year.  Effective teachers are sought, particularly individuals who are interested in improving medical education and who work well on a team. Research opportunities exist, primarily in the area of medical education.  

The Standardized Patient Trainer will teach graduate students under the supervision of higher level faculty member.  The trainer will provide supplemental support to the students in small groups settings and tutoring to assist in student academic success.

Responsibilities

  • The individual will participate in academic programs and carry out responsibilities as assigned by the Department Chair and the Dean of Ross University.
  • As a Standardized Patient Trainer you will be responsible for assisting in supervising the SP sessions, in training the standardized patients, in marking the second semester SP student case write –ups, assisting in reviewing SP performance using WebSP/Metivison and reviewing student clinical performance using WebSP/Metivison.
  • You will also be responsible for helping with the 1st to 5th semester CSCB exams.
  • You may also be asked to assist in other ICM clinical teaching activities and any other duties as allocated by the Department Chair and or the Associate Dean for Academic Affairs
  • Performs other duties as assigned
  • Complies with all policies and standards

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma Required
  • Bachelor's Degree Allied Health Care field Preferred
  • Master's Degree Educational Related Field Preferred or
  • In lieu of the preferred requirement(s), equivalent relevant experience will be considered. Required
  • 3+ years in quality assurance initiatives including, audits, inventory management, writing or reviewing SOP’s Preferred
  • 3+ years working in health care Teams on Project Management, Data confidentiality, logistics planning Preferred
  • Experience training others Preferred
  • Interest in the training and developing within the Clinical Foundations Team
  • Interest in Training and developing Standardized Patients
  • Ability to work across teams vertically and horizontally
  • Ability to work within interprofessional collaborative teams
  • Interacting with Students, SP’s, Faculty and Staff
  • Interest in Data collection and scholarship, professional development
  • Experience with Excel Spreadsheets, MS Office, logistics and planning
  • Fundamentals of SP Methodology Certificate Exam Required or obtained within 180 Days of start date
  • Membership Association of SP Educators (ASPE) Required or obtained within 180 Days of start date
  • Membership of Society for Simulation in Healthcare (SSIH) Required or obtained within 180 Days of start date
  • CHSE Certification Preferred
