Ross University School of Veterinary Medicine (RUSVM) offers a unique program of training on the island of St. Kitts in the Caribbean. A cutting-edge curriculum, with innovative use of technologies and simulations, provides the best possible training for tomorrow’s veterinarians. Students benefit from seven semesters of integrated preclinical and clinical studies at our St. Kitts campus, and one year of clinical training at one of our affiliate veterinary teaching hospitals in the United States, Canada, Europe, and Australia, leading to the award of DVM. The RUSVM research and postgraduate program (https://veterinary.rossu.edu/postgraduate), supported by state-of-art BSL-2 research facilities, offers MSc by research, MSc in One-Health, and PhD by research degrees, and imparts training to postdoctoral fellows.

Our ongoing research focuses on various key issues strategically relevant to One Health in tropical and developing countries, such as infectious diseases of veterinary importance with an emphasis on zoonoses and anthroponoses, antimicrobial resistance, food safety and security, environmental health, and conservation medicine. We prioritize recruitment of talented faculty and are now seeking a key new member to join our team as we develop new programs to best prepare our graduates, postgraduates and postdoctoral fellows to face the global opportunities and challenges of veterinary medicine in the 21st century and contribute to the well-being of animals and humans.

Job Description

We are seeking a Senior Research Professor who has proven history of leading successful One-health-based research programs that align with one or more of the following key focus areas: within veterinary medicine and/or zoonoses.

  • Antimicrobial resistance (desirable, not essential)
  • Molecular epidemiology, discovery, evolution, and/or diversity of pathogens
  • Host-pathogen interactions and/or intervention including host immune responses to infectious diseases
  • Zoonoses and anthroponoses

The successful applicant is expected to establish and maintain a productive research program encompassing one, or more of the above focus areas, as evidenced by publications in high impact peer-reviewed biomedical journals, securing extramural funding, and mentoring postgraduate students, postdoctoral fellows, and junior faculty members. Besides conducting research, the applicant would be (i) engaged in relevant teaching roles in our DVM and/or MSc One-Health program/s, (ii) be required to provide support to the RUSVM diagnostic laboratory, and (iii) undertake administrative responsibilities as requested by Leadership.  

The incoming candidate will have:

  • a primary responsibility toward research and research-related activities (~80%)
  • provide teaching, and administrative services (~20%)

Qualifications

  • The successful candidate will have a PhD in or related to One Health.
  • Preference will be given to candidates possessing a DVM-PhD or MD-PhD.
  • Additional requirements include
    • a proven record of publications in peer-reviewed scientific journals
    • an established record of success in attracting extramural funding from major global granting institutes, agencies, or programs
    • a proactive approach to initiate collaborations with academia, industry, government, or nonprofit organizations
    • and a passion to supervise or mentor junior faculty, undergraduate and post-graduate students, and post-doctoral fellows
    • technical expertise in Molecular Biology, Bioinformatics, and/or Biostatistics is desired.
