Ross Preparatory School serves the students of faculty, staff, and medical students. It is a small multi-grade school that delivers curriculum that is aligned with the US Common Core standards.

The Prep school is seeking a 5-8th grade English Language Arts and Social Studies teacher. As a 5th-8th  Grade English and Social Studies Teacher, your primary responsibility is to provide a comprehensive education in English language arts and social studies to fifth-eighth grade students in a multigrade setting. You will facilitate the development of students' reading, writing, communication, critical thinking, and social studies skills. Through engaging lessons and activities, the teacher will promote a love for learning, foster a positive classroom environment, and prepare students for future academic success.

 

  • Develops and implements a standards-based curriculum for English language arts and social studies, aligned with specified school standards.
  • Plan and deliver engaging and differentiated lessons that cater to diverse learning styles and abilities.
  • Teach essential English language arts skills, including reading comprehension, writing, grammar, vocabulary, and oral communication.
  • Teach social studies topics such as history, geography, civics, and culture, encouraging critical thinking and fostering a global perspective.
  • Utilize a variety of instructional strategies, materials, and technology to enhance student learning and engagement.
  • Assess students' academic progress and understanding through formative and summative assessments.
  • Use assessment data to inform instruction and provide targeted interventions or enrichment opportunities.
  • Provide constructive feedback to students, including specific suggestions for improvement in writing and critical thinking skills.
  • Collaborate with colleagues to analyze student data and participate in data-driven decision-making. 
  • Establish a positive and inclusive classroom culture that promotes respect, cooperation, and active student participation.
  • Set clear expectations for behavior and academic performance, and consistently enforce classroom and school expectations and procedures.
  • Manage student behavior effectively, addressing conflicts or disciplinary issues promptly and respectfully.
  • Foster a safe and supportive learning environment where students feel comfortable taking risks and engaging in meaningful discussions.
  • Differentiate instruction to meet the diverse learning needs of students, including those with learning disabilities, English language learners, and gifted students.
  • Provide additional support or enrichment activities to students who require individualized attention.
  • Establish and maintain open and regular communication with students, parents, and guardians to keep them informed about student progress, classroom activities, and upcoming events.
  • Maintain confidentiality for all Prep school community including but not limited to students, families, etc.
  • Attend faculty meetings, professional development sessions, and parent-teacher conferences to enhance professional growth and contribute to the school community.
  • Contributes to the school community in at least one formal way beyond the classroom that does not include a stipend.
  • Promotes community service within and beyond the Ross community.   
  • Assists other personnel as may be required for the purpose of supporting them in the completion of their work activities.

Qualifications

● Bachelor’s degree in Education, Elementary, English, Social Studies, or a related field.

 ● Demonstrates expertise in teaching English language arts and social studies to elementary school students.

● Strong knowledge of literacy development, reading comprehension strategies, writing instruction, and social studies content.

● Familiarity with US state and national standards for English language arts

● Effective classroom management skills and the ability to create a positive and inclusive learning environment.

● Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to engage with students, parents, and colleagues effectively.

● Technological proficiency to integrate educational technology tools and resources into instruction.
