The Director of Enterprise Risk Management is responsible for the leadership, innovation, governance, and management processes necessary to identify, evaluate, treat, and monitor the company's operational, strategic, transformational, and high-impact event risks across the organization. In addition, this individual is responsible for leading the evaluation, monitoring, and quantification of risk appetite for the Company’s top risks.  This individual will continue to develop and mature Enterprise Risk Management (ERM) tools, practices, and policies to analyze and report enterprise risks and further mature Adtalem Global Education's risk management framework.  Part of Adtalem's Finance team, and in partnership with the leadership across the organization, this position will report directly to the VP, Treasury and Risk Management.  

 

This leader will oversee, monitor and integrate operational and strategic risk management activities of the organization to manage top risks that can protect or create value. The Director will lead Adtalem's Enterprise Risk Committee through collaboration with cross-functional stakeholders and key senior leadership.  This individual will also present to the Executive Team at least twice per year progress against the goals of the Enterprise Risk Management Program.  In addition, this individual will lead policy governance across the organization.

Responsibilities:

  • Further mature the ERM architecture for the company
  • Ensure the organization's risk management policies and strategies comply with applicable regulations, controls and strategic imperatives of the organization
  • Maintain an ERM program which includes program design, governance structure, implementation and operation
  • Contribute to Adtalem’s growth strategy through evaluating potential risks and opportunities to mitigate risk in a proactive manner
  • Perform and/or coordinate additional modeling and analysis around Key Risks
  • Track and report on emerging risks and events, and ensure follow up, creation of action plans, and adjustment of policies, processes and procedures as necessary
  • Serve as a key driver of common risk framework, language, and tools to identify, assess, treat, communicate, and monitor strategic and operational risks
  • Communicate information regarding business risks with functions across the organization as well as a be a key resource for the business units and shared services to identify and monitor emerging risks, risk treatment plans and changing risk landscape
  • Create and maintain appropriate risk measurement tools including an annual risk inventory and periodic updates driven by strategic changes or external landscape
  • Chair and provide key inputs into the company's enterprise risk committee or other committee that oversees the ERM process and ensures alignment with organizational objectives
  • Supervise the risk management activities at Adtalem and provides support and guidance for the evolution of these activities to enable the growth of this business unit
  • Drive effective policy governance and practices surrounding Adtalem’s significant policies across the organization
  • Other duties as assigned

 

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Finance, Required or a business-related field Required and MBA degree preferred
  • 7 years’ experience in operational risk management, audit required or operations management required 
  • Project and program management experience required 
  • 5 years’ experience in a management role within risk management required
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills; strong presentation skills with the ability to articulate complex problems and solutions through concise and clear messaging
  • Ability to interact and communicate effectively with senior leaders
  • Influential leadership skills
  • Demonstrated ability to assess complex issues through root cause analysis and other analytical techniques; structure potential solutions; drive to resolution with senior stakeholders
  • Proven track record in navigating complex, highly-matrixed organizations
  • Effective negotiation skills, a proactive and 'no surprises' approach in communicating issues and strength in sustaining independent views.
  • Strong relationship management skills are essential
  • Professional certification (e.g., CPA, CIA, CFE, CISA or other relevant certification) Preferred

Additional Information

In support of the pay transparency laws enacted across the country, the expected salary range for this position is between $97,253.99 and $193,000.00. Actual pay will be adjusted based on job-related factors permitted by law, such as experience and training; geographic location; licensure and certifications; market factors; departmental budgets; and responsibility.
